Grains: Rice Sampler Interface
Year: 2018
Grains: Rice Sampler Interface (2018) is a hand-built wooden box filled with rice that becomes its own instrument: eight pressure zones, ribbon sensors, and buttons capture touch and motion to sample the rice's acoustic texture via a condenser mic, while a Raspberry Pi running Pure Data records, loops, and manipulates the grains in real time; performance data feeds TouchDesigner for live visual feedback.
Swarm
Collaboration with Josh Elza Breen-Tucci - Eight fan-bowed, three-string drone instruments respond to audience proximity—distance sensors modulate fan speed, pickups amplify the sound, and TouchDesigner turns the data into live three-projector visuals—binding bodies, air, strings, and light into one responsive ecosystem.
